Exhibition

Picture
You will select a sample of resolved work and reflect on what makes these effective pieces for exhibition, particularly in response to your own clearly stated intentions and the messages you wanted to communicate about your artwork.

You will submit for assessment
  • a selection of resolved artworks for their Exhibition: SL (4-7), HL (8-11
  • Curatorial rationale: SL 400 wordsHL 700 words.
This should be your best work. It can and should be in your best media. While you may include work in a variety of media, you need to remember examiners are looking at how your exibition presents a COHERENT body of work. So don't include something if it doesn't "fit" or if it is not technically your best work.

Take photos of your work as you go, don't save this until the end! Examiners will zoom in to see your work.
The Exhibition Text is a very essential component, what you say about your work matters. Be sure to acknowledge artists that have inspired your work. Look back through your PP to find what influenced you as you went.

Every school sets up their Exhibition differently. Here are some ways that other schools do it:
  • As an open day within the school in March (in the Hallway, in the Canteen, in the Drama Studio)
  • Students have individual 1 day exhibitions within the school for assessment, and a celebratory exhibition for parents
  • Build walls within a large space to display, build plinths, and other artwork specific display

Resolved Artworks

The selected pieces should show evidence of
  • your technical accomplishment
  • an understanding of the use of materials, ideas and practices appropriate to visual communication

NOTE: Any resolved works submitted as part of the PP cannot be re-submitted in the Exhibition. Preliminary work as studies for resolved work in the exhibition is of course encouraged in the PP.

Curatorial Rationale

Explain why artworks have been chosen and presented in a particular format, Explain any challenges, triumphs, innovations, or issues that have impacted upon the selection and presentation of the art works

Exhibition Text

For each artwork you will write a maximum of 500 characters as a caption to each Art work submitted for assessment. This should include:
  • title, size, medium
  • A brief context for the image. For example “This is my interpretation of ………influenced by………”
  • References to any sources which have influenced the piece
  • Make it clear if you are deliberately appropriating images from elsewhere

Advice on Capturing Studio Work

When photographing your work, you need to make sure it is represents your work as accurately as possible.
  • focused
  • on a neutral or black background
  • soft even lighting
  • 2D work should be flat against a surface so the edges are aligned
  • 3D work should include an overall photo, plus supporting photos or short video as appropriate
Digital touch ups are acceptable
  • re-position
  • crop
  • adjust for brightness, colour, etc
