Gu Wenda's artwork adorns the entryway of the museum. It is an installation artwork made from a a multicultural mix of human hair, pressed into a paper and lit from within. Many languages are written upon the artwork forming a new culture of all languages and cultures.
7 teachers and 79 art students from Grade 10, 11, 12 and PREDP took a trip to the Power Station of Art near the Nanpu Bridge. For about 3 hours, students explored the exhibition “30 Years of Contemporary Chinese Art: Portrait of the Times.”

The collection of art at this exhibition is outstanding, and students experienced a wide range of artwork by highly creative, skilled, contemporary Chinese artists. Three stories of Chinese contemporary art, there is a lot to take in. Students looked at and discussed the artwork with each other and the teachers, as well as completed 10 studies and analysis of different works of art. Students were on their best behaviour and represented the school well.

Visiting and studying at exhibitions such as this provides students an opportunity to apply learning in the classroom to the real world, and to enrich the work they do in the studio by what they find in the galleries. When studying these artworks, students are asked to relate their favorite works to their own ideas in iGCSE and IB art.

Back in the classroom, students will develop their ideas for their own artwork based on inspiration from this exhibition. Visiting art museums and exhibitions is a vital part of the IB and IGCSE Art & Design Curriculum. Seeing art in real life is completely different and so much more intimate to see in person, and a vital part of an international education.
